Sports Injuries

Competitive sports place tremendous forces across bones and joints, and the repetitive demands of these activities can result in either acute or chronic injuries to periarticular ligaments and tendons. Common injuries include ACL ruptures, meniscal tears, and tendon avulsions.

Each sporting injury is different and healing times vary according to the injured structure. Skin incisions are generally well-healed by two weeks post operatively, at which time physiotherapy commences in consultation with team physicians. Ligaments and tendons generally take 12 weeks to heal fully, and most athletes return to the pitch between 3-6 mos after injury.
